rTMS and depression

👉What is rTMS and how it can help you with depression?🤔

.

🧠Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) or repeated magnetic brain stimulation is used in the treatment of severe depressive complaints. It is a noninvasive form of brain stimulation in which a pulsating magnetic field is used to stimulate nerve cells at a specific area of the brain.

.

RTMS therapies are approved for the treatment of depression by the FDA in the United States and NICE in the United Kingdom, and are primarily given by private clinics.

.

The latest research indicates that after 20-30 rTMS therapy sessions the client either no longer meets depression standards (remission: 55 %) or at least experiences a substantial change (66%).

.

To maximize the effects, rTMS is also paired with cognitive behavioural therapy.

.

During an rTMS session, the health professional places an electromagnetic coil near your forehead against your scalp. Painlessly, the electromagnet produces a magnetic pulse that activates nerve cells in the part of the brain involved in mood control and depression.

.

You may hear clicking noises when the machine is switched on, and feel pressure on your forehead. One session lasts approximately 40 minutes, and you will remain awake and alert.
